Monster Saturday didn’t go exactly as planned. The marquee matchups and endless hype about big games produced exactly two games that were tight until the end – Shoelace Robinson’s Heisman-like performance against the Irish and Kansas’s shocker over the Wreck. There were as many great games on Thursday and Friday with Auburn and West Virginia’s escapes.
Meanwhile, a whole bunch of beatdowns dotted the television landscape. The savage woodshed treatment delivered to Florida State, Penn State and UCLA was vulgar. But nothing was more offensive than Virginia Tech’s utter incompetence against James Madison. Losing to the fourth President does not bode well for one’s BCS hopes (or for one’s opponents BCS hopes, sorry Boise).
So here’s the week 3 Bourbon Meyer Poll:
2. Ohio State
5. Boise State
14. South Carolina
20. Penn State
21. Air Force
24. West Virginia
25. Texas A&M
Some quick thoughts on the poll… Alabama is a ruthless and merciless menace right now. Darth Saban has assembled a team that will, come December, have the best-ever tag thrown its way. How does that best-ever thing work out, by the way (USC 2005, Florida 2009)? After Alabama, depending on how you feel about Ohio State, you could put the next 5-10 teams in a bag and pull them out randomly. Our beloved Gators are either doing a fair impression of 2006 or headed toward four losses. We really have no idea how it’s going to play out and frankly we’re excited about that. We are going to pound our chests a little since we were the ONLY poll that had Michigan ranked in the preseason. Nevermind why we had them ranked, we just did!
