TV and radio stations, as part of the deal for being allowed to use the public airwaves, are required to air PSAs from time to time. While those public service announcements usually deal with unimportant matters like childhood obesity, drugs (click here for a true classic) and seat belts (and here’s another outstanding one), Bourbon Meyer’s first PSA is REALLY a big deal. This is real. Really. We didn’t make it up. So see you in Blacksburg.
National Tailgating League Announces Creation of Multi-City College Tour
NTL expands with College Tour as Companion to some of Biggest Football Games of the Year
(Charlotte, N.C.) – The National Tailgating League (The NTL), an organization created in May of 2009 to sanction and execute organized tailgating games including Cornhole, Ladder Golf and Washer Toss competitions, officially announced details today for their 2010 College Tour. The National Tailgating League has chosen Blacksburg, VA as the opening location for their multi-city tour set to follow some of the biggest college football match-ups of the year, and has partnered with Foxridge Apartments as the venue to host the competitions on Friday September 17th.
The NTL will be officially announcing details of other tour events in the following college towns: Knoxville, TN, Clemson, SC, Greenville, NC, Columbia, SC, Auburn, AL, Baton Rouge, LA, Tuscaloosa, AL, and Charlotte, NC.
The NTL launched onto the scene in May of 2009 with a 10-event NASCAR tour sponsored by Budweiser. The NTL just wrapped up their seventh event on the 2010 schedule with Michigan International Speedway, August 13 – 15. The next stop will be the NASCAR race in Bristol, TN, this weekend. For the College tour, The NTL has joined forces with Sporting News Magazine and Rowdy.com, an iconic figure in the college football world and their new online community for sports enthusiasts.
Featuring multiple cornhole tournaments with cash and other prizes on the line, the NTL College Tour events in each town will give fans a pre-game experience before their favorite teams take on their biggest rivals. All tournaments will take place the day before the actual gameday at various venues in college towns, and are open to the entire student body and alumni. A complete schedule of all tournaments can be found at www.TheNTL.com. Online registration for each event will open at midnight thirty days prior to published event day, allowing contestants to sign up in teams of two to reserve a spot with a $10 per team entry fee.
“Tailgating once was the event before the event,” said Todd Hirschfeld, creator of The NTL and president of HMS Worldwide, a sports and lifestyle marketing agency. “Today, tailgating is often just as anticipated as the game and with today’s announcement, The NTL brings a whole new level of tailgating to the college environment. From the success we have had with The NTL at the various NASCAR venues, we are extremely excited about the announcement of the college tour program.”
The inaugural NTL event in Blacksburg will host doubles cornhole tournaments, which will take place on the spacious grounds of Foxridge Apartments off of Prices Fork Road just west of campus, and will consist of three doubles tournaments beginning at 1 pm on Friday. Cornhole gamers and football enthusiasts will be playing for a host of prizes including entry into the National Tailgating League’s Championship with a grand prize purse of $10,000 dollars in December.
Interested students, fans and alumni that want to participate in one of the NTL doubles cornhole tournaments should reserve a spot by signing up today at www.TheNTL.com. Become a fan of The National Tailgating League on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/thentl
