Gators are close to repeat Capital One Cups

After their impressive last day comeback to win the Outdoor Track National Championship, the Gators are close to clinching back to back Capital One Cup Championships as the top NCAA men’s athletics program. Florida currently sits in first place with only the College World Series left to be played. As the #1 overall seed in Omaha, the Gators are the favorites to win both the baseball National Championship Trophy and the Capital One Cup.

Two teams can mathematically pass Florida for the cup but the only real threat is the UCLA Bruins. If Arkansas were to win the World Series and have Florida fall to eighth or lower in the final poll, the Razorbacks would pass us. UCLA could pass the Gators under two scenarios. The first would be the Bruins finishing 2nd and the Gators falling to eighth or lower in the final poll, which is unlikely. The most likely way for them to pass us would be to win the National Championship while the Gators fell to 3rd or lower in the coaches poll.

The Gators start the weekend against the South Carolina team that ousted them last year en route to their second consecutive national championship. UCLA gets this years Cinderella story, Stony Brook, in the first round. With the deck already stacked against us, you now have a greater reason to root for Florida and a black hat team to root against for the tournament.

Parsons at the ESPYs

Here is a clip from last year’s ESPYs where Chandler Parsons accepted the award. The Stanford women’s team has already secured their second Cup and the $200,000 first prize. We hope that Florida sends another senior basketball player to the ESPYs so we can hear how the money will supply 67,000 late night tacos for Erv Walker.
