Mercifully, the Gators are off this week and we don’t have to a) watch them, which is really a miserable three hours and b) have our Saturday mojo ruined. Instead we can focus on the important stuff. We’ve struggled this year, posting a 21-21-1 mark (5-1 last week, got us back to .500). But like everything else that’s going wrong right now, we blame it on Addazio. So with Florida out of the picture, we’re going big this weekend.
LSU +6 – Auburn is exciting but we’re still having a hard time seeing either of these teams as legitimate NC contenders. The Hat keeps this one close enough to blow at the end. Cam Newton continues to make us cry.
South Carolina -12.5 – Vandy was just destroyed 43-0 by a Georgia squad that is not as good as the Cocks. So of course our radar is going off about why Vegas has this line so low. We’ll take the bait and play it… but it’ll be a small chip.
Alabama -16 – This rivalry game has lost so much luster it doesn’t even take place on the “Third Saturday in October” anymore. Bama needs to win out and win big to defend their title.
UAB +20 – Mississippi State jumped into the polls this week. Obviously a 10-7 win over a 4-3 squad with one of the worst offenses in all of college football won over the hearts and minds of the voters. We’ll take the points as UAB is often a frisky play against their SEC big brothers.
Oklahoma -3 – The Sooners are not the best team in the land but they are substantially better than Mizzou.
Va Tech -27 – As Sonny pointed out last week, this is vintage Hokies. They’ve now covered five straight. Duke should be better on offense then they’ve been but Beamer has his boys rolling. Ride the train.
Iowa -6 – Wisconsin letdown combined with trip to Iowa City to face what is really the best team in the Big 11? Lay the points.
North Carolina +7 – Randy Shannon hasn’t beaten Butch Davis and this might be his last chance, given Butch’s situation. The Tar Heels have been extremely profitable this year (5-1 vs spread).
Fresno State -19.5 – Our research occasionally leads us off the national radar. This is one of those, a nice tip we picked up in our reading. Plus, always fun to play a late west coast game.
Arkansas State -7 – If Fresno State is off the radar, Arkansas State is outside the cosmos. But the Red Wolves (bonus points if you knew the nickname) are 5-2 vs the spread this season. FAU was a bowl team a few years ago but have fallen into mediocrity.
