Billy Donovan won two National Titles (2006 & 2007), but then he flirted with the Orlando Magic, failed to land a top recruit or two (or three), had the Gators disappointingly in the NIT (2008 & 2009), and then an unfortunate 1st Round tournament loss (2010). The 2008-2010 years had many Gators wondering whether BillyD had lost his mojo.
Then things started turning around. 2011 and 2012 had Billy Donovan and the Gators back in the NCAA Tournament, and making fantastic runs to the Elite 8 (both ending in similar fashion). Now the the 2012-2013 Gator Basketball team is off to a fantastic start. After beating the Ole Miss Rebels 78-64 at the O’dome. The Gators are now 18-2 and will be in the Top 3 in this week’s up and coming polls. With a weak SEC, the Gators are likely to have a great regular season and end up as a top 3 seed for the NCAA Tournament.
Next years Gators will be without current seniors G Kenny Boynton, PF/C Erik Murphy, and (redshirt senior) G Mike Rosario. That leaves some significant holes in the Gator lineup. But reinforcements are coming!! Here is a rundown of the two current hoops commits…
Chris Walker (6’10″ Power Forward)
Chris Walker is a Top 5 Power Forward in the 2013 class. He plays for Holmes County High School in Bonifay, Florida. Don’t know where Bonifay is? Think lower Alabama, half way between Tallahassee and Pensacola. Walker plays AAU ball with fellow Gator commit Kasey Hill. We could wax poetically about this kid, but instead we’ll let you just experience Walker’s freakish athleticism…”Chris, don’t hurt’em!!”…
Kasey Hill (6’1″ Point Guard)
Kasey Hill is a Top 3 Point Guard in the 2013 class. He plays his high school ball at Montverde Academy and has teamed up via AAU with fellow Gator commit Chris Walker. Hill is known for a high basketball IQ, his athleticism, and his ability to create.
A youtube channel called “Coach Donovan” features a few videos of these “Future Gators”. And don’t be worried, the future is bright for Gator Basketball, check out these two mixtapes (Yes they are different but with the same song..see below). Stay excited for this year’s squad and enjoy their run through March Madness, but know that next year is going to be just as exciting!!
