Expect Gators Recruiting to Close Strong

Andre Debose Signing with Gators in 2009

Even though the Gators are not doing great on the field, the opposite could be said about their recruiting.  According to Rivals.com, the Gators have the fourth best recruiting class in the country. Out of their 21 commitments thus far, 10 are four-stars and two are five-stars.  However, the class will likely only get stronger.  Do not be surprised if the Gators end up with a class that is within the top two in the country come February 1, 2012 (National Signing Day).

Over the next three months I will analyze the current recruitment class and offer my thoughts and opinions on who I think the Gators will gain commitments from (and lose commitments from) and how that stacks up to the rest of the country.

Current Commitments

Willie Bailey (6’1”, 165 lbs.) 3-star DB; Hallandale, FL.

Jonathan Bullard (6’4, 255 lbs.) 5-star DE; Shelby, NC

Bryan Cox, Jr. (6’3″, 240 lbs.) 3-star DE; Ft. Lauderdale, FL

Jessamen Dunker (6’6”, 315 lbs.) 4-star OL; Boynton Beach, FL

Austin Hardin (5’11”, 200 lbs.) 2-star K; Atlanta, GA

D.J. Humphries (6’5”, 265 lbs.) 5-star OL; Charlotte, NC

Damien Jacobs (6’3″, 294 lbs.) 4-star DT; Houma, LA (JUCO)

Matt Jones (6’2”, 200 lbs.) 4-star RB; Seffner, FL

Rhaheim Ledbetter (5’11”, 190 lbs.) 3-star DB; Boilling Springs, NC

JaFar Mann (6’4”, 275 lbs.) 3-star DT; Stone Mountain, GA

Marcus Maye (6’1”, 195 lbs.) 4-star DB; Melbourne, FL

Alex McCalister (6’7″, 212 lbs.) 3-star DE; Clemmons, NC

Skyler Mornhinweg (6’3″, 215 lbs.) 3-star QB; Philadelphia, PA

Antonio Morrison (6’3”, 220 lbs.) 4-star LB; Bolingbrook, IL

Dante Phillips (6’6”, 268 lbs.) 4-star DT; Venice, FL

Latroy Pittman (6’1”, 190 lbs.) 4-star WR; Citra, FL

Brian Poole (5’11”, 187 lbs.) 4-star DB; Bradenton, FL

Jeremi Powell (5’11”, 200 lbs.) 4-star LB; Largo, FL

Kent Taylor (6’5”, 220 lbs.) 4-star TE; Land O’Lakes, FL

Colin Thompson (6’5”, 255 lbs.) 4-star TE; Warminster, PA

Quinteze Williams (6’4”, 295 lbs.) 3-star DE; Tyrone, GA

Likely to Join Class

Stefon Diggs (6’0”, 185 lbs.) 5-star WR; Olney, MD

Tracy Howard (5’11”, 175 lbs.) 5-star CB; Miramar, FL

Jake Meador (6’7″, 305 lbs.) 3-star OT; Whiteland, IN / Avery Young (6’6″, 273 lbs.) 4-star OT; Palm Beach Gardens, FL

Leonard Williams (6’5″, 264 lbs.) 4-star DE; Daytona Beach, FL

It is no surprise that Will Muschamp is cleaning house.  I expect 3-5 more players to transfer.  The Gators currently only have about 56 players on scholarship.  The Gators will be looking to fill a large class, but I do not expect any more than 28 players to be in this class.

Stay tuned for more updates.

    Any thoughts on Kelvin Taylor?

    • Daniel Thompson says:

Kelvin is a 2013 RB. His father is Fred Taylor.

I think the Gators stand in a good position.

There are some great running back in the 2013.

I am not sure where Taylor is on that board…

  2. Brandon Smith says:

UF wants to take 2 backs in the 2013 class…The top 4 they are targeting would be:
    Derrick Henry
    Greg Bryant
    Adam Lane
    Kelvin Taylor
Kelvin is down to UF an Bama….In all honesty its really just a matter of the first 2 of those guys committing to UF…They could rush to committ early next year so they dont lose their spot…We’ll see

    • Daniel Thompson says:

I think Kelvin has to be accepted because of his father. If he wants to go to UF, Muschamp and Co. cannot reject his commitment if 3 of the 4th want to commit.

I am not overly impressed with Lane.

      We will see.

  3. Tom says:

Unfortunately, Leonard Williams, Josh Harvey-Clemons, Dante Fowler will all be wearing Garnet and Gold.

    • Daniel Thompson says:

I guess we will see. This is projection. Anything could happen.

    • Brandon Smith says:

Tom must be a FSU fan, why hes on here I dont know. But hes obviously a lil nervious that Muschamp & Co. are killing it on he recruting trail this year. Like Muschamp said after the Vandy game. These teams better enjoy it while were down, cause we aint goin nowhere an I cant wait for Half A$$ U to visit the Swamp in a few weeks…..BOOM Mutherf*ckers!!!!!!!

      • Tom says:

I’m actually a Bull Gator. With regard to Muschamp, let me say that Charlie has been making a strong push to take over HCing duties next year. This will be Charlie’s team. It will break soon.

        • Tanner says:

Hahaha, so we have a top 20 defense and a bottom 50 offense and you think the offensive coordinator will usurp control? Sounds logical…

  4. John C says:

I sure hope we can land some more OL! A kid would be crazy not to sign with UF if they knew they had a good chance of playing next year! The opportunities are there for the taking!

    Thanks for the insight!

    • Daniel Thompson says:

      I agree.

UF is currently only in the running for a few OL: Avery Young, Kyle Murphy and Andrus Peat.

A few new names may show up. But light on the options now.

  5. npgator says:

What about Noah Spence from Pennsylvania? Now that Penn State is in a tailspin it looks more likely that we land him.

  6. Dan Thompson says:

Yes. Noah has a great chance. He should have been in my mock class. Oversight. I imagine he will be a Gator and would have been a Gator regardless.

  7. 386gator says:

I think you can add Bryon Cox Jr to that list…
