The Gators have filled another need, this time with 3-star quarterback Skyler Mornhinweg (6’3″, 215 lbs.) out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
When the Gators hired Brent Pease to be Offensive Coordinator, his mission was to find a quarterback. Two individuals rose to the top of that wish list: Mornhinweg and Paxton Lynch (6’5″, 225 lbs.). However, it was made clear that Mornhinweg is the bigger priority and that Lynch would only be at best a backup option.
Mornhinweg originally committed to Penn State on July 17, 2011 and is considered a dual-threat quarterback, according to Rivals.com. Mornhinweg will likely redshirt during his first year and serve in a back-up role for the next few years.
Skyler is also the son of Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.
