Defensive end Alex McCalister of Clemmons, NC becomes the third Gators commitment in as many days, as he becomes the 20th commitment for the class of 2012.
McCalister (6’7″, 212 lbs) is ranked as a 3-star by Rivals.com, and is considered the 26th best defensive end in the country and 13th best player in North Carolina.
McCalister, who is very light for a defensive end, is known for his quickness and athleticism. He is very tough to block around the edge because of his quick feet and initial explosiveness. McCalister is a much better run-stopper than pass-rusher. However, he needs at least one season before he can contribute. McCalister could afford to put on at least 50 pounds of good weight and muscle. In fact, most people think that the 212 pound listed weight is very generous. Once McCalister puts on weight and develops as a pass rusher, he could be very good pick-up for the Gators.
McCalister’s commitment was expected after Bryan Cox, Jr. tweeted the following on Saturday:
S/O to @Mccalisterr he gone commit to the Gators on Monday!!! #GatorNation show him love
McCalister also considered Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Notre Dame.
